(This program is for children older than 12 years old and younger than 13 years in June.)

Seventh Grade Core Curriculum: Age of Exploration; the Renaissance; Reformation; cultural geography; physics (mechanics); inorganic chemistry; physiology; health and nutrition; creative writing; pre-algebra and arithmetic; composition, grammar, spelling, and literature.

The seventh grader begins to experience more deeply both inner questioning and self-reflection. The curriculum mirrors the student’s outer exploration of the world and the inner soul journey. The student begins to establish sexual identity.

History

Seventh Grade history is an intensive study of the Renaissance, the Reformation, and the Age of Exploration and Discovery. This was a great turning point in the evolution of human consciousness as a new age of wide scientific inquiry and exploration was discovered. The students are introduced to the biography of important figures of such times for example, Joan of Arc, Martin Luther, Michelangelo, Leonardo, and other great explorers.

English

The curriculum introduces expressive writing through the study of “Wish, Wonder, and Surprise.” The students learn how to write with contrasting moods such as joy/sorrow and blessing/condemnation. Dictation and composition are continued as well as grammar. The student is introduced to different poetical forms.

Physics

The class studies the biographies of important physicists and their discoveries. The lessons focus on magnetism, electricity, gravity and the mechanics of the lever, wheel and axle. The approach includes experimentation and observation in order to discover laws and concepts.

Chemistry

Chemistry is introduced with the study of combustion. Experiments are done in which organic and inorganic substances are subjected to burning, and the students observe this process, noting the color of the flame, the smell, and the residue of the ash. Exploration of the properties of acids and bases and the study of the limestone cycle, including firing and hydration, conclude this introduction to Chemistry.

Physiology

This study looks at life processes of blood circulation, respiration, and digestion in the human being. The student is introduced to health, nutrition and exploring the human sexuality and reproduction.

Geometric/Prospective Drawing

The student is introduced to drawing of angles, triangles, perpendiculars, and perspective drawing. They work with formulas of area and perimeter of geometric figures and the Theorem of Pythagoras and its uses.

Mathematics

The student continues the mastery of algebra and the order of numbers: squaring, cubing, and square roots. Algebra helps the students formulate questions in their process of inquiry.

Art

The student is introduced to drawings and paintings by the great artists of the Renaissance. The student works with clay modelling to strengthen their observation skills. The student also embarks on their own free-hand sketching to create portraits of the Renaissance artists in pencil, watercolor and/or pastel. The student works in their Main Lessons with watercolor painting. Calligraphy writing is used as a form to create more detail and beauty in their Main Lesson books.
